History: Character Wiki but since this doesn't cover everything afterward I'll elaborate further.

With the help of the Blades, Voltron was able to gain an advantage in the fight against Zarkon. After his defeat, the Blades continued to fight against the Galra now that they were struggling to figure out what to do with their leader not there to guide them. Keith started to join them on missions and eventually came to be with them full time after Shiro came back to the Paladins alive somehow. Once more they worked to help fight but this time to fight against Lotor.

When it turned out Lotor became an ally, the fight shifted. One such mission involved Keith almost causing it to fail by rushing in to stop explosives from going off so they wouldn't harm Shiro and Lotor who were trying to get Lotor the Galra throne, something that ended up succeeding. Another involved needing to make contact with an agent that he had on the inside, Krolia. A Galra spy who also happened to be Keith's mother. Sending Keith in, he and the Blades continued their work in the background until Keith contacted them with news of a colony that Lotor had been using to turn Alteans into batteries. He went there but as it turned out the colony had already been emptied.

At this point Lotor and Voltron battled each other. A fight that ended in an explosion and both sides vanishing. With the universe not knowing where they were, Kolivan continued to lead his Blades in the fight against the Galra. Especially now that the power struggle had started anew. The main trouble was that the Druids were now out to put an end to them. On one planet they met in battle with many Blades dying and one Druid surviving. This Druid captured Kolivan and kept him tied above the ground as he tortured him to draw out his distress code from his mind. Something the Druid then used to draw other Blades to the planet so he could kill them too.

Instead Voltron was drawn in since Keith was a Blade himself and knew the codes. They fought the Blade and saved Kolivan. Krolia, who was with the Paladins, swore to stay with Kolivan to help rebuild the Blades while the rest of the Paladins when to go to Earth.

He was next seen after the fight on Earth was concluded. Aliens from all around the universe coming to Earth to establish an alliance in the fight against the Galra. He was there with Krolia in Keith's hospital room when he awoke from the injuries he obtained in the battle to save Earth.

Personality: One of the first things someone will notice about Kolivan is his highly serious nature. He is not one for joking around or even exaggeration. He says what he means and he means what he says. At first it might seem that this is just something that comes with the territory of being the leader of a highly secret spy organization but when one gets to know him better one quickly learns this is just who he is. He's not the go out and have fun sort of person. He works and he does his work well. Even down time is dedicated towards improving what he can do for work.

Because of this nature of his though, he's able to remain cool and calm in high pressure situations. This is one of the last people that you will see lose his head when things get tough. It makes him reliable and his men trust him completely as a result. Feelings he gives in return to his men. After all, it doesn't take much to see how close all of the Blades are to each other. In the episode where he's rescued from being tortured we're able to really see the full depths of his emotions for his men. Even here he remains calm as he mourns for their loss as well finds himself deeply regretting that he would be responsible for more dying. There is perhaps no one who loves the members of the Blades of Marmora more than Kolivan does. Each and every last one of them.

Because of this, he has a great deal of patience when it comes to what they do. A lot of this can be seen with Ulaz. Though we never saw the pair interact, Kolivan speaks in a way that suggest he and Ulaz have clashed in the past on how to deal with missions. Despite this, he trusted him completely with the tasks he assigned him to. He wants his Blades to have their own opinions and ideas, even if they don't agree with his own. As long as they are presented respectfully, he's perhaps even willing to listen to them as well. Because this is much like a family, something we also see in how he handles Keith who joined the Blades late. Not only does he trust him on missions but after Keith wakes up in the hospital on Earth it's Kolivan there with Krolia to wait for him to wake up.

Despite these deep emotions that he feels though, he does know how to keep them from running his life. Emotions aren't bad things but they can get people killed if they are allowed to be in control of the mind. He has learned how to compartmentalize them a bit to allow him to do what needs to be done, to focus on a mission. Emotions are something he can dwell on later. Likely in private when he has down time. But in the present of a mission he has to hold onto his objectivity or his men will fail. And failure is not an option in this war.

Perhaps the last part of his nature that is important to note is that he's a rather secretive person who is almost paranoid. He doesn't trust easily and it can take time to prove worth to him. Though he can be talked into a tentative alliance, he doesn't walk into into anything like that without putting a great deal of thought into it first. In his line of work, trusting without caution or even proceeding without caution leads only to death. It's why the motto of the Blades is Knowledge or Death. Know all you can before moving in or you die. It's something he lives by to the fullest and he expects all of his men to follow it as well. In all honesty he frowns on those that don't because he feels that they are taking unnecessary risks in life. Is that a bit judgmental? Definitely. But he's not about to apologize for it. Not ever.

Abilities & Skills: As the leader of the Blades of Marmora, Kolivan is well versed in the art of subterfuge as well as guerrilla warfare. He has personally helped to train his Blades in how to handle situations to the point of knowing exactly what all of his men are capable of. Though he doesn't go in as a spy himself, he knows what it takes to be one and is able to understand who to send into such a situation, who can handle it. But he isn't one to just stay back entirely while he sends others out into danger. He is often on the front lines with his men, reading the scene to know when to pull out and whether to attack or not. It is rare that his men are caught when he is with them.

This is a skilled fighter who knows how to arrange small groups of Blades to get in and get out of situations. To obtain information or to hit the enemy hard with a localized attack. He lives strongly by “Knowledge or death” and makes sure that he knows what is going on around him. Makes sure that he has all the cards on the table in his hand rather than in the hands of others. And when all else fails he can use a sword to cut through the enemy like butter. However, if he doesn't have a blade on hand then he can easily continue to fight. Anything can be used as a weapon, including his own body. He is faster and stronger than the average human is which only further enhances this fact.

It should be noted that it takes a great deal to get information out of him if he doesn't trust you. A Druid had to use his abilities to torture Kolivan and essentially rip information out of his mind. There's no telling how long he was kept like that but one can assume that he can handle a great deal of torture.

Inventory/Companions: His Blade of Marmora. This is a piece of technology that can go from the size of a knife to the size of a sword but only when someone with Galra DNA uses it. It is not magical and has no magical properties. Also, his Marmora uniform which has a helmet he can activate to cover his entire head.

Choice: Witch
Reason: In his series, he was recently tortured for what must have been months by what is essentially a witch in his world. So it's not that he doesn't trust magic but more that he doesn't want to personally wield it. I think having him need to learn how to use it will present an interesting challenge for him after all he's been through.
